WPA follows the NZAMD contemporary syllabus, choreographed by Ann Dewey. Students are able to begin contemporary from the age of 9 regardless of previous dance experience, and are encouraged to sit contemporary exams.

The syllabus teaches students to understand the concepts of contemporary movement such as weight, flow, momentum, and the use of gravity, while enjoying a sense of dance that focuses on freedom of movement and spatial awareness.

Ballet students are expected to do contemporary once they are old enough.
